Why join?
If you are an aquaculture producer in California or you are thinking about becoming one, we invite you to join the association for the following reasons:
- Industry Cooperation. If you are aquaculturalist, you can improve your business by sharing information with your colleagues. Although our members are competitors in markets, you will find that most of them are helpful and in many cases can be of direct assistance to your business by providing primary material, technology, and advice to your operation. There is an old saying in the business that we sell more fish to one another than to anyone else and although that is not really the case, you will find within the association opportunities to trade and sell your products, share in marketing programs, and cooperating with colleagues to serve your customers.
- Information. Like many other businesses, aquaculture depends on a constant reliable stream of information about all the aspects of the business including scientific findings, technical innovation, regulation and political action alerts, market news, and industry trends.
- Mitigating Regulation. If you are in the aquaculture business or you are thinking about starting one, you will find that eventually government regulation will be a critical factor in your operations. In the association you will find a sympathetic ear to your situation and the capacity to do something about if you feel that regulation is unfair, unwarranted, or arbitrary, you can depend on the CAA to work toward resolving your problem. We have done that for 40 years and will keep doing it in every instance one of our member’s businesses is threatened by excessive regulation.
- Political Action. There is a constant stream of regulatory and legislative action, often critical to the industry, coming from Sacramento and from the Federal Government, that an individual has almost no chance of averting. If you join the association your will join hundreds of other voices that defend the interests of the aquaculture industry. The CAA has a history of experience, the organization, and the staff, including a professional legislative analyst, to protect the industry including your business from regulatory strangulation.
- Service Infrastructure. By joining the association, you will find yourself connected to suppliers of goods and services to aquaculture operators. We maintain a categories of membership for material suppliers, restaurants and product distributors, and equipment manufacturers and anyone else that has an interest in sponsoring the aquaculture industry.
How to join.
The CAA is run by its members. They invite you to attend the quarterly Board of Directors Meetings (see events) that are held at different locations around California, often rotating between Sacramento and a Southern California venue. Come and meet the directors and the other guests at the meetings and familiarize yourself with a representative slice of the membership. Look at the Website and give us a call.
