The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) is seeking proposals from small business firms for participation in Phase I of the Fiscal Year 2016 NOAA Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) Program.

The SBIR program is a highly competitive program that encourages domestic small businesses to engage in Federal Research/Research and Development (R/R&D) that has the potential for commercialization. Through a competitive awards-based program, SBIR enables small businesses to explore their technological potential and provides the incentive to profit from its commercialization. By including qualified small businesses in the nation’s R&D arena, high-tech innovation is stimulated and the United States gains entrepreneurial spirit as it meets its specific research and development needs.

During Phase I of the NOAA SBIR Program, small businesses are invited to submit innovative research proposals in response to the NOAA Research and Development (R&D) strategic goals of (i) Weather-Ready Nation, (ii) Climate Adaption and Mitigation, (iii) Healthy Oceans, and (iv) Resilient Coastal Communities and Economies. Specific subtopics relative to marine aquaculture are:

  • Improving Outcomes of Marine Aquaculture via Genomic Approaches
  • Developing Technologies for Offshore Aquaculture in the United States

NOAA anticipates making multiple Phase I awards, each with a period of performance of six (6) months and a ceiling price not to exceed $120,000.00. The solicitation will close January 14, 2016.
