The Aquarium of the Pacific is offering a Fall 2015 Aquatic Academy Course, Making the Case for Marine Aquaculture in the Southern California Bight. The course will take place on 4 Thursday evenings: October 15 and 22 and November 5 and 12, from 7:00pm – 9:15pm. This course, led by industry experts, offers seafood connoisseurs, conservationists, scientists and investors the opportunity to explore and discuss aquaculture’s role in meeting the growing seafood demand.

Seafood is the primary source of protein for more than 3 billion people on the planet and is widely recognized as contributing to a healthy diet. A desire for seafood, coupled with growing and more affluent global populations, has created a dramatic increase in seafood demand. Wild-capture fishery harvests have leveled off and cannot meet the growing demand alone. Aquaculture will play a substantial role of meeting society’s need for increasing food supplies into the future.
In a series of evening classes, seafood connoisseurs, the conservation-minded, and those who are interested in learning more about solutions for meeting the needs of a growing population will interact with scientists and experts to learn more about aquaculture’s role in meeting the growing seafood demand, the conservation implications of marine aquaculture, and join the discussion on what California’s role should be.
Parking will be validated for registered course participants.
