The Government of Baja California presented the first State Aquaculture Charter of the country to state aquaculture producers in order to encourage investment and promote the cultivation of marine species.

According to the head of the Fisheries and Aquaculture Secretariat in the state (SepescaBC), Matias Arjona Rydalch, the document brings together 36 cultivated and cultivable species.

During a meeting with local producers, the official explained that aquaculture is a priority for global food supply “and this region has a strategic location and water quality and climate offering great appeal to many regions of the world.”

He said the State Aquaculture Charter “represents a way to expose” what Baja California has done for four decades, and what can be “carried out in six years counting on everybody’s willingness.”

For his part, the President of the State Committee for Health and Safety of Baja California (CesaiBC), Juan Carlos Lapuente Landero, estimated it is convenient to have a document of this type to act as a reference not only for query validation before federal authorities, but also when promoting a permit or concession for production resources.

The state secretary of Fisheries also announced that this year the project of Aquaculture Park Baja California will start so as to set a national precedent control, intensive production and long-term planning in the supply of species with calendars and precise objectives, reported Diario Tijuana.

In addition, he predicted that in 2015 the world conference ‘Offshore Mariculture Conference’ will be held.
