FDA launches seafood labeling-compliance module

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) on Thursday launched an online tool to help seafood retailers, processors and regulators comply with federal labeling laws.

The Fish and Fishery Products Hazards and Controls Guidance module provides an overview of the federal identity labeling requirements for seafood offered in interstate commerce; a list of specific laws, regulations, guidance documents and other materials pertinent to the proper labeling of seafood; a description of the agency’s role in ensuring proper labeling; and tips for identifying mislabeled seafood in the supply chain.

The module includes three short videos on the purpose of proper labeling and the agency’s role.
