Friday…

We kick off the weekend with tours of commercial aquaponic farms near San Jose.  Ouroboros Aquaponics in Pescadero and Jon Parr‘s School Grown in the Half Moon Bay Greenhouses just to name a couple.

This year on Friday, we will also be rolling out short courses for starting at $75 to help beginners bone up on the basics of aquaponics – samplings from courses that often cost hundreds or even thousands of dollars. Sneak peak…Murray Hallam from Practical Aquaponics in Austalia will be presenting one set of workshops along with Glenn Martinez from Olomana Gardens, Rob Nash, Ryan Chatterson and Jacob Freepons.

In the evening, enjoy an evening relaxing with aquaponics experts at a “Meet and Greet” party that includes the exhibitors and posters.

Saturday…

Enjoy lunch with  pioneer and inventor of the ZipGrow Towers,  Dr. Nate Storey for a special keynote presentation. Nate Storey has been designing and operating equipment for aquaponic and hydroponic applications for almost a decade. He completed his PhD work at the University of Wyoming researching vertical aquaponic production methods, and currently serves as the CEO at Bright Agrotech, a company that leads the industry in aquaponic and vertical farming equipment.

After lunch, get ready to dive into our packed presentation line up. Our presenters were a hit at last year’s conference, and this year we are bringing in more. Enjoy great presentations ranging from Commercial, Home and Community Aquaponics, to Aquaponics in Education and even more in depth specifics on Fish and Plants and Sustainable / Off-grid Solutions.

Saturday night promises to be the highlight of the weekend—an evening with Charles Shultz, who is one of the world’s experts on aquaponics training and research at a special dinner keynote presentation.  He  has recently completed his graduate coursework and research on indoor lighting options for aquaponic food production. Mr. Shultz worked as a tilapia broodstock manager & laboratory technician at the Virginia Tech Aquaculture Center and as an aquaculture research analyst for 14 years at the University of the Virgin Islands (UVI) Agricultural Experiment Station with Dr. Rakocy, where he specialized Tilapia production in Aquaponic and biofloc systems. Currently, Charlie serves as the Aquaponics Researcher at Lethbridge College in Southern Alberta, Canada.

Sunday…

In the morning, we will have Morning with Murray Hallam of Practical Aquaponics in Australia and we tend to a little business at the Annual General Assembly of the Aquaponics Association. Next, a luncheon with keynote, Dr. Nick Savidov about food safety.  Round out the rest of your day attending more great  presentations. By the time you leave San Jose, you will be on aquaponic overload!
