Aquaculture development committee invites NGO’s to participate
January 5th, 2009
The Aquaculture Development Committee (ADC) at its September 24th meeting has recommended that committee membership be expanded to include Non-governmental Organizations (NGOs) and NOAA. After thoroughly reviewing the issue, identifying a long list of groups that could be considered for membership, and the desired criteria for membership, the committee recommended that the Director of California Department of Fish and Game invite the following four organizations to become ex officio, i.e. non voting, members of the ADC: Hubbs-SeaWorld Research Institute, Monterey Bay Aquarium, Ocean Conservancy, and the World Wildlife Fund. An additional recommendation was made to invite Dr Michael Rubino, NOAA, to designate an individual to become an ex officio member. Letters of invitation have been prepared for the Director’s signature.
The new members at present will not have voting rights, however the committee indicated the desirability of giving voting rights to new members pending review of appropriate sections of the Fish and Game Code.
